Tea is much more than a drink: it’s history, culture, health, and tradition. At Compañía Ecuatoriana del Té, we’ve spent more than 60 years cultivating this passion in the heart of the Amazon. Today we want to share 10 fun facts about tea you might not have known… and that will make you love every cup even more!
1. Tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world 🌍
Second only to water, tea is drunk on every continent. More than 3 billion cups are consumed around the world every day.
2. All teas come from the same plant
Although there are many varieties (green, black, white, oolong…), they all come from the same plant: Camellia sinensis. The difference lies in the process.

3. Tea is also grown in Ecuador 🍃
And of excellent quality! In Palora, Morona Santiago, we have been growing Ecuadorian tea with Amazonian identity since 1964. Few people know it, but our country has the ideal climate for its production.
4. Tea was discovered by accident
Legend has it that in 2737 BC, the Chinese emperor Shen Nung discovered tea when leaves fell into his boiling water. He was captivated by the aroma… and tea was born.
5. Tea helps with concentration
Thanks to L-theanine, an amino acid that improves focus without causing jitters, tea is the perfect ally for work or study.
